Meet our MGO Members – MAX

By September 28, 2018Community, Meet our MGO Members

Here at MGO we love the amazing group of women who make our community the incredible and inspiring space that it is.

To celebrate this, each week we’ll be speaking with one of our members and getting to know them a little better.

We couldn’t have thought of a better lady to pop our Meet our MGO Members cherry than Max – our most frequent contributor in our facebook group.

How long have you been an MGO member for?

I think just under a year!

How long have you been adventuring for, and when/how did your adventure journey begin?

All my life! I was lucky enough to be taken camping at different locations with my family every year as a kid.

What do you enjoy most about being outdoors?

So many different things! Creating great memories with loved ones, challenging myself and improving my fitness, seeing beautiful places!

Which is your favourite event/adventure ever?

There are too many to choose from! Definitely any of the ones that have involved scrambling up or across rocks! Or skinny dipping alone watching the sunrise… that was pretty amazing!

What was your first MGO event?

My first MGO event was indoor bouldering which I was excited about but a bit nervous meeting people! I met some lovely women though and I had a great time. I’m so glad that I went!

How has your experience with MGO been so far?

Great! I love the community feeling and being inspired by everyone’s adventures. I feel proud to count myself as part of this great group of strong women.

What do you like the most about the MGO facebook group?

The beautiful photos and the great tips!

What are the largest barriers you’ve faced while trying to get into the outdoors?

I don’t drive so it can make getting to places and carrying what I need pretty difficult. Luckily being part of the group means I can reach out to fellow members and organise carpooling!

Do you have any advice for new MGO members, or people looking to get into your favourite kind of adventure?

Start slowly and make plans!! Don’t push yourself too hard, but keep making plans for adventures and don’t wait for the perfect day/weather/company!

Anything you’d like to share with the MGO community?

I have a few big adventures planned so let me know if I’ll see you at one of them!! I’m doing my first Tough Mudder in October, then the Great Vic Bike Ride in November/December, and then hiking in the Sapa Valley to raise funds for Oxfam in April next year! I would be thrilled if anyone is able to donate to my fundraiser – every little bit counts and 100% goes directly to Oxfam!

If you’d like to get to know me on social media and follow my progress on all of these adventures, check out my instagram 🙂
